Three great firmware programs to increase efficiency

We Symbol SPT 1800 Series have developed firmware (BatchPro) for the PalmOS that interfaces with our rental software solution. The firmware runs on the latest Symbol PDT (Portable Data Terminal) which is a PalmOS based PDT with an integrated barcode scanner.

Batch Return Processing
Batch Return Processing allows the user to scan any number of items being returned without regard to which contract or customer they belong to. The user may scan the entire contents of a delivery truck as it is being unloaded. When scanning is complete, the batch is transmitted to the host for processing with a few taps of the stylus. RCMS then sorts the batch by customer and by contract. RCMS will then process the batch and automatically return the items from the contracts. Items are returned to inventory, usage figures are updated, invoices/credit memos are generated, customer balances are updated and transactions are posted to the GL. This saves a tremendous amount of time by not only eliminating the need to separate items by customer and by contract, but also automating the contract return process.

Wireless/Non-Wireless Operation
BatchPro operates in one of two modes of connectivity. In Wireless mode BatchPro can query the host after each item is scanned and display information about the item such as, Make, Model, current contract and customer number. Wireless mode is also used for item and contract validation which means less chance of mistakes for processing. Non-Wireless mode allows a user to scan items continuously without prompts and upload the item numbers at the end of the session.

Barcode or Manual Entry
Item entry is as easy as pointing the Symbol unit and pressing a button. Manual entry is available if a barcode is damaged or a user prefers pen based entry.

Physical Inventory
Whether you're taking a full physical inventory or doing cycle counts, the labor intensive process of taking inventory and reconciling discrepancies is a thing of the past. After walking around the warehouse and scanning your inventory, tap a few buttons on this Palm OS device and the batch is transmitted to the RCMS host for processing. RCMS Pro's Physical Inventory Batch Processing program will compare your physical inventory against the assets current status and location. Reports are produced that not only tell you what's missing, but what is in inventory that's reported on contracts and/or reservations. You may also update Stock Locations by batch.
